My role: Design Director
I was responsible for devising a design strategy and process for updating the visual branding of internal sites. There were thousands of internal sites that needed brand updates, but no clear strategy or governance over them. My major contribution was to devise and tell the story to Brand and internal site leadership about the strategy.
We distributed our design system through a variety of channels, and took a major step in developing it by adding a Design Token system that allowed for easy code updates.
I defined three Brand tiers in order to help site teams understand the updates they needed to make and take measured steps toward a true unified experience.
We worked with the application development leadership to establish a review process early in the site development life cycle, to ensure that teams were provided with the design system and had Brand guidance early on.
Storytelling goes a long way.
What this project needed was not a skillfully designed artifact, but a clear articulation of the what, how, and why of the program. While it doesn't seem like much, sometimes all a program needs is for someone to string that story together.
